About
CHRIS MACRO
Producer/Composer/DJ
HipHop/Reggae/Drum&Bass/Dub/MashUp
Chris Macro is a New Zealand born producer, known for his work in the hip hop and reggae scene, both in NZ and abroad.
Macro’s current project, Macro Dubplates, combines his passion for hip hop and vintage dub in a new style of mashup fans have coined “Rocksteady Rap”.
Volume 1 combines the musical madness of King Tubby with the lyrical swordplay of the Wu Tang Clan.
Volume 2 features Jay Z over classic dubs of Bob Marley and The Wailers.
Volumes 1 and 2 have clocked up over 180,000 downloads since 2009.
Volume 3 – Brooklyn, VS Kingston has a broader lyrical and musical scope, with vocals from artists such as ODB, Dawn Penn, The Congos, Beastie Boys, Biggie, Beenie Man and U Roy and Music by Prince Jammy, King Tubby, Lee Perry and Henry Junjo Lawes, just to name a few.
Macro Dubplates is the perfect blend of tunes for the summer BBQ or a boozy night with the crew. Tunes such as Brooklyn No No, featuring ODB and Dawn Penn, are instant dance floor fillers, with good vibes to spare.
All 3 Volumes of Macro Dubplates can be downloaded for free from chrismacro.com.
Volumes 1 & 2 have recently been bootlegged to white-label, and have sold out worldwide. (there are still a few available from chrismacro.com, be quick) Volume 3 is due for vinyl release at the end of September 2011.
When Macro is not producing his own work, he can be found working on projects for other artists. In the past he has produced work for Katchafire(NZ), Blue King Brown(Australia) and many NZ hip hop acts. He has remixed songs for John Browns Body(US), Outlawz (US), Blindspott(NZ) and many other acts. Macro has worked in the studio with Mad Professor, and James “Bonzai” Caruso (Marley Fam).
Macro has recently moved to Melbourne, and is currently in the studio working on Dubplates volume 4, and other projects.
